TO
ALL AND SINGULAR
To
whom these presents shall come Sir George Nayler Knight Garter Principal
King of Arms and Ralph Bigland Esquire Clarenceux King of Arms of the
South East and West Parts of England from the River Trent Southwards, send
greeting. Whereas
His Majesty by Warrent under His Royal Signet and Sign Manual bearing date
the first day of December instant signified unto Henry - Thomas Howard -
Molyneux - Howard Esquire commonly called the Right Honorable Lord Henry -
Thomas Howard - Molyneux - Howard Deputy with the Royal Approbation to his
Brother the Most Noble Bernard - Edward Duke of Norfolk, Earl Marshal and
Heredidary Marshal of England that He has been graciously blessed to give
and grant unto Sir Charles Hastings of Willesley
Hall in the County of Derby Baronet son and heir of Sir Charles
Hastings Baronet a Knight Grand Cross of te Royal Hanoverian Guelphic
Order, a General in the Army and Colonel of the 12th Regiment of Infantry,
deceased, by Dame Parnell Hastings his Wife, only Child of and heir of
Thomas Abney sometime of Willesley Hall aforesaid Esquire also deceased
his Royal Licence and Authority that He and his Issue may out of respect
to the Memory of his maternal Grandfather Thomas Abney Esquire abovenamed
assume and from henceforth use the Surname of ABNEY in addition to and
before that of HASTINGS and also bear the Arms of ABNEY quarterly in the
second quarter with his paternal Arms, such Arms being first duly
exemplified according to the Laws of Arms and recorded in te Heralds
Office otherwise His Majesty´s said Licence and Permission to be void and
of none effect: And foreasmuch as His Lordship did by Warrant under his
Hand and Seal bearing date the thirteenth day of December instant
authorized and direct Us to exemplify such Arms for ABNEY accordingly:
KNOW YE THEREFORE hat We the said GARTER and CLARENCEUX in Obedience to
his Majesty´s Command in Pursuance of His Lordships Warrant and by Vitue
of the Letters Patent of Our several Offices to each of Us respectively
granted under the Great Seal of the United Kingdom of Grea Britain and
Ireland do by these Presents Exemplify unto the said Sir Charles Hastings
now Sir Charles Abney-Hastings Baronet the Arms following that is to say:
Quarterly First and Fourth HASTINGS, Second and Third ABNEY, viz(t), Or on
a chief Gules a Demi Lion issuant argent, the Crest of HASTINGS and the
Crest of ABNEY viz(t). On a Wreath of the Colours A Demi Lion Or the
Sinister paw resting upon an Antique Shield charged with the Arms of the
aforesaid late Sir Charles Hastings Baronet being Argent a Maunch within a
bordure engrailed Sable as the same are in the Margin hereof more plainly
depicted to be born and used for ever hereafter by him the said Sir
Charles Abney-Hastings Baronet and his Issue persuant to the Tenor of the
said Royal Licence and according to the Laws of Arms. In
witness whereof We the said GARTERand CLARENCEUX Kings of Arms have to
these Presents subscribed our Names and affixed the Seals of our several
Offices this twenty-second day of December in the fourth Year of the Reign
of Our Sovereign Lord George the Fourth by the Grace of God of the United
Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith &c.:
And in the Year of Our Lord One thousand eighthundred & twentythree. Signed
